Verne is seeking a Controller to join their dynamic team in Keflavík, Iceland. This position reports directly to the Head of Finance in Iceland.
We are seeking a structured and analytical Controller to oversee financial reporting and accounting while also providing business-oriented insights to support management decision-making. The Controller will ensure accurate financial information, strong internal controls, and forward-looking analysis to drive performance and support strategic goals. The ideal candidate is analytical, well-organized, and comfortable working with numbers and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting:
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
- Oversee accounting activities in close cooperation with local and global accounting teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial records
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and group policies
Financial reporting, controlling and analysis:
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across all financial reports
- Prepare and deliver monthly reporting packages for group reporting
- Monitor financial performance versus budget and forecast, and provide variance analysis and explanations
- Analyse financial performance, profitability, and key business drivers
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes
- Provide financial reporting and insights to business owners
- Oversee fixed asset accounting and reviews
- Act as a business partner to key stakeholders, providing financial guidance and decision support
Revenue and power accounting:
- Review customer agreements and ensure appropriate accounting treatment in line with applicable standards
- Oversee accounting related to power agreements
- Ensure accurate calculation and accounting of commissions
Regulatory reporting:
- Prepare and submit financial reports to regulatory authorities in Iceland
Audit and tax:
- Coordinate and support year-end audit and tax reporting processes
- Liaise with external auditors and advisors
Change, Growth & Systems
- Support the finance organization through periods of rapid growth and change
- Drive improvements in financial processes, controls, and reporting quality
- Play a key role in the implementation and optimization of a new ERP system
Skills and experiences required:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proactive, structured, and improvement-oriented approach
- International exposure: Experience in working with international teams
- Knowledge of the Icelandic language is essential for engaging with local stakeholders.
